Wagner Honored at the Associates for Breast and Prostate Cancer Studies "Talk of The Town"

Associates for Breast and Prostate Cancer Studies hosted its 24th gala "Talk of the Town" at The Beverly Hilton. The event raised funds for breast and prostate cancer research at John Wayne Cancer Institute (JWCI) in St. John's Health Center.

Actor Robert Wagner received the Spirit of Hollywood Award. Michael Wayne and Sister Maureen Craig, St. John’s Health Center Foundation chaplain, gave Robert Wagner his award.

The Associates for Breast and Prostate Cancer Studies was formed 24 years ago and has raised more than $14 million for cancer research at JWCI.

‘Hart to Hart’ Cast Reunites, Thanks to Entertainment Weekly

"Hart to Hart" was the classic hit television series that followed a fabulously wealthy CEO, played by Robert Wagner, and a freelance journalist, played by Stefanie Powers, as they fell in love and traveled the globe as amateur detectives.

If that plot sounds wild, so was the reunion that brought Wagner, 83, and Powers, 70, back together again after 17 years. The reunion, coordinated for Entertainment Weekly magazine’s annual reunions issue, was hosted by “Hart to Hart” “superfans” Adam Scott and Amy Poehler, who play husband and wife themselves on the TV sitcom “Parks and Recreation.”

Poehler’s asked “the Harts” what it was like to play husband and wife on the small screen.

“They were constantly asking us to have affairs with other people, have a child,” Powers, aka Jennifer Hart, said, referring to the show’s creative team. “We couldn’t have a child. It would slow us down.”

“They constantly wanted to have conflict between us,” agreed Wagner, aka Jonathan Hart, but said their characters “never got into any domestic squabbles.”

Powers pointed out that their characters were “two people who were adults who were in love with each other who had chosen to be together and were there because of free will.”

“We were a team,” he said.

The pair’s chemistry was so strong that the producers and crew tried to keep them apart in order to keep the show, which ran from 1979-84, moving along on schedule.

“We would get tired and laugh [and] one take would become 30,” Powers said.

“We had so much joy that the main office came down and said they didn’t want us to be together because we would laugh,” Wagner recalled. “They got really upset. They were like, ‘Why did they do that? Why did they laugh?’”

Powers first met Wagner when she was a dancer during preproduction for the 1961 movie musical “West Side Story.” (Powers was later cut from the cast.)

“We were rehearsing every day … and then, one day, in walked the two most beautiful people in the world, real movie stars Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood,” Powers said, referring to Wagner’s late wife, the actress Wood, who died after falling off a yacht that Wagner was also on in 1981.

In a strange coincidence, Powers at one time studied ballet with both Wood and Wagner’s current wife, Jill St. John.

“Who in the world would ever predict that in one ballet class there would be three people who would be, in one way or another, married to Robert Wagner?” Powers said.

And while Powers’ onscreen persona carried with her an aura of glamour and wealth and was famous for her voluminous hair, she revealed to Poehler a behind-the-scenes secret that the current sitcom star could not believe.

“You set your own hair,” Poehler asked Powers, incredulously.

“I never had one,” Powers replied, referring to a hairdresser.

Robert Wagner's daughter arrested after shooting at Malibu home

The daughter of actor Robert Wagner and actress Natalie Wood was arrested on suspicion of narcotics possession after a reported shooting in Malibu, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said Monday.

Deputies were called to a home in the 24400 block of Piuma Road in unincorporated Malibu on April 22, following a report of a shooting, according to a sheriff's statement. Courtney Wagner, 38, of Malibu, and Matthew Cox, 24, were at the residence when deputies arrived.

During the investigation, they found several handguns and several baggies "of what appeared to be narcotics at the location," according to sheriff's officials.

A short time later, Cox was arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, sheriff's officials said. Wagner was booked on suspicion of narcotics possession, according to sheriff's officials.

They were released on bond after being booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station, officials said.

In November, the department announced it was reopening its case into the 1981 death of Robert Wagner's wife, actress Natalie Wood. Her death at the time was ruled an accidental drowning while boating off Santa Catalina Island.

By January, sheriff's investigators said they had uncovered no new evidence in her death nor anything to suggest it was not an accident.

There are English subtitles on board, too. Also included you'll find extras such as a Retrospective Featurette, a New Robert Wagner interview, the "Magnificent Thief" version of the Pilot Episode, "A Matter of Larceny" Interview with Glen A. Larson, and a Collectible Photo Book. Finalized package art hasn't been provided yet, but here's an early graphic that suggests which direction they're heading in. Wagner drops out of TV series

Robert Wagner has dropped out of the new Charlie's Angels television series due to a scheduling conflict.

Wagner had taken over for John Forsythe as the voice of Charlie in the ABC remake, which will air later this year.

A statement from a production spokesman reads, "Due to his scheduling conflicts, Robert Wagner will need to step away from his duties as Charlie on Charlie's Angels."

Producers are now looking for another well-known TV personality to play crime agency boss Charles Townsend.

Annie Ilonzeh, Rachael Taylor and Minka Kelly will play the Angels on the new show.

It takes a movie star: Robert Wagner enjoying Turner Classic Movies guest stint

Robert Wagner appreciates spending some time in Robert Osborne's shoes.

As the primetime host of Turner Classic Movies begins a three-month break for what the network calls "minor surgery" and a subsequent vacation, veteran actor Wagner is the first of several guest hosts enlisted. Friday (July 15), he'll introduce several films made by Western star Tex Ritter -- father of John, grandfather of Jason -- and the next night, he'll present Clark Gable movies ("Mogambo," "Band of Angels").

"They are absolutely first-rate, top-of-the-line people," Wagner tells Zap2it of the TCM staff. "They run that organization so well, and they create such a tremendous atmosphere. They're wonderful, and so is Bob [Osborne]. We've been friends for years. We were both under contract to the Fox studio, so I go back a long time with him, and he's just one of the nicest people I've ever known. When they called me about this, I was thrilled and touched and flattered."

Still, for the vast Hollywood history that has seen him cast in everything from the 1953 "Titanic" to the "Austin Powers" spy spoofs, Wagner has no illusions about being another Robert Osborne.

"He is a master at that. It's kind of an interesting situation, because I think I'm the first person who's ever come in there (as a primetime stand-in, though Ben Mankiewicz is a daytime TCM host). I don't think he's ever missed an introduction in 17 years, and he's so highly respected by everyone."

MGM-musical veteran Jane Powell ("Royal Wedding") will be on TCM hosting duty next week, with Tippi Hedren ("The Birds") slated for the week of July 25. They're likely to draw on their own showbiz memories as Wagner has; he recalled being in the Broadway audience watching Robert Preston in "The Music Man" when he introduced the 1962 screen version Wednesday (July 13).

"They write so beautifully for those pieces," Wagner says of the TCM host segments. "I just suggested to them that I had seen Robert Preston on Broadway, so we put that kind of stuff in ... which they love, because it personalizes it."

Wagner also is able to do that with Clark Gable. "I tell the story about waiting there as a kid with his golf bag on my shoulder, hoping to caddy for him. He came out and looked at me and said, 'There's that kid again!' He was wonderful; he got me into MGM and was just so great to me. It's a nice thing to be able to add that."

Also a longtime television star through such series as "It Takes a Thief" and "Hart to Hart," Wagner -- who is married to actress Jill St. John -- is maintaining a home-screen presence through his recurring role as Tony DiNozzo's (Michael Weatherly) father on CBS' Tuesday hit "NCIS." He'll also be heard as Charlie in ABC's fall reboot of "Charlie's Angels," after having a share in the production of the original version.

"NCIS" is, according to Wagner, "the icing on the cake, to work with those people. They're just the best. They all have respect for one another, the writing is great, and I love that character. And I love Michael. I'm just crazy about him, so it's not a difficult thing to do. Our chemistry seems to work pretty well."

Working on his second autobiography now, Wagner also has been seen lately as a commercial spokesman. "Sometimes," he says, "I'll be driving down the road, and a guy will beep his horn at me and I'll look over and he'll say, 'I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you.' And that's the reverse-mortgage thing. The response to me in those kinds of presentations has been very gratifying. I believe in them, and I think that helps."

Turner Classic Movies Host to Take a Break

Robert Osborne, the longtime host of the Turner Classic Movies channel, plans to take a three-month leave of absence, the channel said in a statement Monday. Mr. Osborne, 79, will be undergoing minor surgery, the channel said, without specifying for what, as well as taking a vacation.

Perhaps assuaging viewers’ concerns, the channel noted that Mr. Osborne, who has been the channel’s host since 1994, recently renewed his contract. In his place, guest hosts including Robert Wagner, Jane Powell and Tippi Hedren will step in, with others to be announced “in the coming weeks,” the statement said. In the interim, Mr. Osborne will still appear in taped features like the channel’s guest programmer series and “The Essentials,” a weekly showing of a must-see film.

Robert Wagner to Voice Charlie in ABC’s Charlie’s Angels Reboot

ABC's long-gestating reboot of Charlie's Angels is a bit closer to reality today: The network has officially given the thumbs-up to producers Sony Pictures Television and Drew Barrymore to begin filming a pilot for the revival. Smallville vets Al Gough and Miles Millar are show-runners on the new Angels, which moves the action down to Miami. Casting sessions for Angels 3.0 (we're just going to forget about the pilot for Angles '88) began last week, with producers looking at both newcomers and more established actresses. Vulture hears one key part may already be filled, however: the voice of Charlie.

We've confirmed those Internet rumors that former Hart to Hart star Robert Wagner, who turns 81 next month, is in talks to serve as the Angels' unseen boss (the late John Forsythe was the original). We had been hoping the remake might utilize a more contemporary voice for the part (think Will Smith, or maybe even Barrymore). But our spies say that Wagner's casting is related to an old deal the actor had with original Angels producer Aaron Spelling that gave Wagner a stake in the Angels TV franchise. Wagner unsuccessfully sued Sony for a share of the profits from the movie versions of Angels, but he might have been able to make trouble for Sony had the studio tried to do a new TV version without his blessing. Paying Wagner to voice Charlie seems like a clever way to avoid any future headaches.
